Cal Signs Carly Amborn For 2026-27 Season

Former Stanford Guard Joins Bears

The California women's basketball team has added sophomore transfer Carly Amborn to its roster for the 2026-27 season, Cal head coach Charmin Smith announced Thursday.

Amborn, a 6-foot-2 guard from Larkspur, California, is transferring to Cal from Stanford.

"Carly brings tremendous size to the guard position," Smith said. "With her length not only will she be a matchup problem for opposing backcourts, she will also give us versatility on defense to guard multiple positions. I've been following her since high school and she is a lights out 3-point shooter so she will be a great compliment to our existing 3-point threats and fits our style of play extremely well."

As a freshman in 2025-26, Amborn appeared in 16 games logging 59 minutes and averaging 2.0 points per game and also shot over 50% from beyond the arc. She posted season highs of 10 points, four rebounds and two 3-pointers against Lehigh.

Prior to Stanford, Amborn was a four-star recruit out of San Domenico School where she was twice named to the San Francisco Chronicle Girls All-Metro Basketball First Team (2024-25) and was a two-time Bay Counties League (BCL) West Player of the Year (2024-25). She led San Domenico to its first North Coast Section (NCS) Division V crown in 2024 after posting 27 points and 15 rebounds in the championship game. Amborn was also a participant in trials for both the 2024 USA Women's U17 National Team and 2023 USA Women's U16 National Team.

"I cannot wait to continue my family legacy here," Amborn said. "Cal truly feels like home. Coach Charmin is the ultimate leader and I am incredibly excited to play for someone who cares so deeply and believes in her players on and off the court. I feel so lucky to join this team."
