Everett, Robinson Highlight Bears’ Effort at UCLA

LOS ANGELES – The California softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to UCLA on Saturday afternoon at Easton Stadium.
 
Game 1 | UCLA 13, Cal 5
 
The Bruins took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI groundout.
 
UCLA added to its advantage with two home runs in the second and another in the fourth to build a commanding 7-0 lead.
 
Cal answered in the fifth, scoring five runs on four hits to pull within two, 7-5. Kayli Counts and Gator Robinson each delivered RBI doubles, while Sophia Everett crushed a two-run homer to right to bring the Bears back into the game.
 
The Bruins responded with a six-run fifth inning to secure the run-rule victory, 13-5.
 
Game 2 | UCLA 9, Cal 1
 
UCLA once again jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning to go up 4-0.
 
After a scoreless second, Gator Robinson launched a solo home run to deep left-center to cut the deficit to 4-1. The Bruins answered with four more runs in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead to 8-1.
 
UCLA added a solo homer in the fourth to make it 9-1 and held Cal scoreless in the fifth to end the game early.
 
With the losses, the Bears fall to 13-33 overall. Cal returns to action Tuesday afternoon at Saint Mary's.
