Cal Hosts Saint Mary’s In National Semifinals

No. 1 Bears Meet No. 2 Seed Gaels For Spot In Title Game

 
The West Region No. 1 seed California rugby team will clash with No. 2 seed Saint Mary's Saturday in the 2026 D1A National Collegiate Championship semifinal match. The Golden Bears and Gaels will kick off at 1 p.m. PT, with the gates of Witter Rugby Field set to open at noon for fan entry.
 
Cal has had a dominant run in the postseason so far, defeating No. 8 seed San Diego in the first round 88-5, then routing No. 4 seed BYU last weekend in the quarterfinals 96-12. The Bears scored 28 tries in their first two playoff matches, from a combined 16 different players, with 32 different players seeing first-team action.
 
Saint Mary's comes into Strawberry Canyon after defeating No. 7 Colorado State 69-10 in the first round of the playoffs and No. 3 Arizona 48-19 last weekend. The Bears and Gaels previously met in Moraga earlier this season, with Cal coming away with a 66-35 victory giving the Gaels their only loss of the season. Cal and Saint Mary's last met in Berkeley in last year's national semifinals, a 38-27 victory for Cal.
