Cal Signs Chiara Amoroso As Transfer Addition

The All-Conference Honoree Comes To Berkeley Via Long Beach State

A Southern California product is bound for Berkeley with the addition of Chiara Amoroso to the California women's water polo family, head coach Coralie Simmons has announced. A 5-foot-10 utility player, Amoroso joins the Golden Bears as a senior transfer from Long Beach State.

"Chiara brings an elite two-way presence to Cal women's water polo," Simmons said. "Her ability to impact the game offensively and defensively, compete at a high level and elevate the culture of a locker room makes her a tremendous addition to our squad. She's the type of player who will raise our standard every day."

Amoroso, a native of Newport Beach, earned a place on the 2026 All-Big West First Team as a junior, finishing the season as the Beach's third leading scorer with 62 goals. She scored in 26 of Long Beach State's 28 games last season, ringing up 18 multiple-goal games and topping out with a career-high six goals – including the sudden-death winner – in a victory over UC Irvine.

Amoroso played in every game of her three seasons at Long Beach State, compiling 110 goals in that span. As a freshman, she was named to the All-Big West Freshman Team in 2024. Amoroso's high school career saw her secure a spot on the All-CIF Third Team as a senior out of Newport Harbor High,

Amoroso joins a Cal program that reached the NCAA final for the second time in three years, knocking off defending champion Stanford in the 2026 NCAA semifinals in April. She is one of seven new Bears signed on for the 2026-27, joining incoming freshmen Julia Frigola Navarro, Julia Gustafsson, Lucia Indart, Lotte Lightner, Melina Ntouli and Caroline Starrett.
