Former California women's basketball player Michelle Onyiah made an instant impact in her debut for the Charlotte Crown this past Monday in the newly formed UpShot League, posting a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with two steals after signing with the team that same day. She spent the previous year playing for Basket Namur Capitale in the Belgian Top Division after graduating from Cal following the 2024-25 season.
 
The UpShot League is in its inaugural year. Its founding investors include women's basketball Hall of Famer Cheryl Miller and former women's professional player and WNBA/NBA Executive Ann Meyers Drysdale. Its mission is to commit to uplifting, elevating, and developing women basketball athletes, coaches, front office personnel and extend the commitment to communities and fans. There are currently four teams with two expansion teams already announced.
 
Onyiah graduated from Cal as one of the all-time great Golden Bears, helping the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2024-25. That season, she led the ACC and ranked 11th in the country in field goal percentage and was second in the ACC in double-doubles during conference play. Onyiah finished her career ranked on several Cal all-time top 10 lists: third in single-season FG% (60.3), sixth in career FG% (54.0), 10th in single-season blocks (44) and fifth in career blocks (143).
