Charmin Smith Wins Gold At FIBA U18 AmeriCup

Smith Served As Assistant For USA Basketball’s Women’s U18 Team

California women's basketball head coach Charmin Smith can now add a gold medal to her resume, as she helped the 2026 USA Women's U18 National Team win its 12th straight gold medal with a 90-72 win over Canada on Monday night at the 2026 FIBA U18 Women's AmeriCup in Irapuato, Mexico. The victory also concluded an undefeated run in the tournament.

The USA improved to 76-2 all-time in the tournament, dating back to its inception in 1988. Monday's win was the USA's 62nd consecutive victory at the event, where it is now 12-0 vs. Canada in U18 play.

The U.S. team totaled 50 3-pointers through its five games, surpassing the U.S. competition record of 38 3-pointers set in 2024. The USA also dished out 139 assists (27.8 apg) in Irapuato, surpassing its previous U18-high of 134 set in 2004.

This marked Smith's second stint with USA Basketball, as she previously served as a court coach for the 2024 USA Women's U18 National Team trials in Colorado Springs.
