De La Torre, Prather Taken On Day 2 Of 2026 MLB Draft

2 Cal Juniors Get Call Ups

Right-handed pitcher Oliver de la Torre and catcher Hideki Prather of the California baseball team were selected Sunday, the second day of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft. The Toronto Blue Jays drafted de la Torre in the 15th round with the 462nd pick and Prather went to the Minnesota Twins in the 17th round with the 497th pick.

With Gavin Eddy being drafted in the fifth round by the Houston Astros earlier today, the Golden Bears now have 244 MLB picks in their history, including 30 chosen under head coach Mike Neu. Cal has had at least one selection in 58 of the 62 drafts, which began in 1965.

de la Torre becomes the third Bear taken by the Blue Jays following David Cooper (2008) and Cameron Eden (2019). He joins his running mate Eddy as the two core members of this year's weekend rotation making all 14 Friday starts this season. The big righty reached new heights in his third season with the Bears posting career highs in nearly every stat category including ranking 12th in the ACC with a 3.76 ERA. de la Torre allowed just a .233 opposing batting average and collected five wins and 72 strikeouts in his 81.1 inning of work.

Prather is also the third Bear to be chosen by the Twins joining Tom Colburn (1979) and Paulshawn Pasqualotto (2023). All the Oakland native did in his first year at Cal was lead the team in nearly every offensive category as a lead-off hitter that caught 39 of the team's 55 games. Prather paced the Bears in batting average (.333), OPS (1.053), runs (48), doubles (17), home runs (14), RBI (46), walks (26), OBP (.421), and slugging percentage (.632).
