Cal Baseball Adds Assistant Coach Bob Ralston

Ralston Returns To Berkeley With 35 Years Of Coaching Experience

The California baseball team bolstered its staff Friday bringing back Bob Ralston as an assistant coach, as announced by Head Coach Mike Neu.
 
Ralston, who began his coaching career at Cal in 1990 as the Golden Bears' infield coach, returns to Berkeley with 35 years of experience having taught baseball at every level of the sport. He most recently served as the head coach of Los Medanos College in 2026 following a stint as the skipper for the Bellingham Bells in 2024, where he led the collegiate summer league team to a 32-22 overall record with a North Division title game appearance. head
 
He has worked in a number of other roles including the athletic director of Clayton Valley High School (2018-2020), the head coach of Cal State East Bay (2011-16), and the manager of the Chicago Cubs Class A minor league team, the Williamsport Cubs (1997-1999).
 
Ralston was also a standout player transferring from Chabot College to Arizona where he was named a Baseball America First Team All-American after leading the Wildcats hitting both seasons batting .336 as a junior in 1983 and .363 as a senior in 1984. He was selected in the sixth round of the 1984 MLB Amateur Player Draft by the Minnesota Twins and went on to play seven years in the minors for both the Twins and the Oakland Athletics.
