Biography

Cal Success:

  • Finished his Cal career as one of the all-time great scorers in program history and his 245 career goals ranked second to only Chris Humbert (296) on the Bears' all-time list.
  • A four-time All-MPSF selection, Hooper earned first team honors in 2018 after leading the conference in goals per game with 3.67.
  • Led the Bears with 49 goals and 39 steals. Rnaked third on the team with 48 assists and 26 ejections earned.
  • Helped Cal reach the final of the MPSF Championships and earned all-tournament honors after contributing five goals, 12 assists, nine steals and four ejections earned in three games.
  • Earned MPSF Player of the Week honors twice as a senior (Oct. 1 and Oct. 22).
  • Scored a season-high six goals on three different occasions - Sept. 19 vs. Santa Clara, Sept. 22 vs. San Jose State and Oct. 21 vs. UC Santa Barbara.
  • Appeared in just 15 of Cal's 24 games in his final season after spending the first part of the year with Team USA.
  • Added to his standout Cal career as a junior in 2017, earning first team All-American honors for the second year in a row. Also named a second team All-MPSF performer and earned a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament Team.
  • Ranked second on the team in scoring with 47 goals despite missing the first four games of the season to rest after a busy summer of international competition.
  • Led the Bears in assists with 51 and contributed 32 steals, 17 field blocks and 11 ejections earned. Also scored on seven of eight penalty shot chances.
  • With three goals in Cal's win over Stanford at the 2017 MPSF Championships, Hooper moved into the Bears' all-time top 5 in scoring with 196 career goals. 
  • Followed a standout freshman campaign with arguably an even better season in 2016 as he earned first team All-America, All-MPSF, All-NCAA Tournament and All-MPSF Tournament honors as a sophomore.
  • Led the MPSF in scoring in 2016 with 75 goals, his second-straight season with over 70 goals.
  • Scored a pair of goals, including a key penalty shot conversion late in the match, in Cal's 11-8 overtime win over USC in the national title game.
  • Scored multiple goals in 23 of Cal's 27 matches and led the Bears in scoring 14 times.
  • Scored a season-high five goals in a 15-8 win over UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 24.
  • Earned All-MPSF Tournament honors thanks to a three-game stretch in which he totaled 10 goals against UCLA, Penn State Behrend and Stanford.
  • Emerged on the national scene immediately as a freshman in 2015, earning the MPSF Newcomer of the Year award after leading the team and ranking second in the conference with 74 goals.
  • Also earned second team All-America and second team All-MPSF honors and became the second Bear in a row (Luca Cupido) to win the top newcomer award.
  • Ranked second on the team with 46 steals and third in assists with 36. Also had 20 ejections earned and seven field blocks. 
  • Earned second team All-NCAA Tournament honors after scoring five goals in two matches at UCLA. Tied for team-high honors with four goals in the Bears' third-place win over UC San Diego.
  • Had a knack for scoring in key situations and scored the game-winner in overtime against Pacific on Oct. 10. Also scored the insurance goal in overtime against the Tigers on Sept. 5 and another key insurance goal in a 12-10 win over USC on Halloween morning.
  • Scored a season-high seven goals in overtime win at Long Beach State on Oct. 25.
  • Scored multiple goals in a game 23 times in 2015 and had a streak of 14 games in a row (Sept. 26-Nov. 1) with two or more goals.

High School/National/Junior College Success:

  • Established himself as a key contributor for Team USA during his time at Cal and was a member of the United States squad that competed at the 2018 FINA World Cup.
  • Starred for Team USA throughout the summer of 2017 and led the team in scoring at the FINA Junior World Championships. Also led the United States Senior National Team in scoring with eight goals at the FINA World League Super Final and competed at the FINA World Championships.
  • Attended Harvard-Westlake High School in Los Angeles where he was a four-time All-American and 2015 CIF Division I player of the year. Helped Harvard-Westlake win back to back CIF Southern Section Division I championships and went undefeated as a senior.
  • Played for Premier Water Polo Club and was named a first team all-Junior Olympics performer at every age level he played. Helped Premier win the Junior Olympics at the 18, 16, 14 and 12-under. 
  • Named 2014 co-player of the year by the Los Angeles Daily News.
