Biography

2023-24: Was 12-5 in singles and 8-7 in doubles…teamed with Berta Passola Folch to win the consolation doubles title at the Saint Mary’s Fall Invitational…also reached the singles semifinals in the Moraga tournament.

2022-23: Garnered a berth on the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor roll…was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete…on the court, Thiel posted records of 9-8 in singles and 7-11 in doubles…paired with Cami Brown to reach the doubles semifinals of the Cal Fall Invitational.
 
2021-22: Thiel was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, with a grade-point average at or above 3.5…she posted a singles record of 10-10 and a doubles mark of 13-2…Thiel earned her first singles win in a dual match in Cal’s 5-2 victory over San Diego State, in which Thiel defeated Cécile Morin, 6-1, 6-0, on court six…her first overall singles win came in her first match in the 2021 Cal Fall Invitational, with Thiel besting Cal Poly’s Melissa LaMette, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.

Personal/Previous: Majoring in business administration…born in Berkeley, Thiel is a product of nearby Piedmont in the East Bay…her mother, Pamela Lee, competed for the Cal women's swimming & diving team, and her sister, Kaelli Thiel, played tennis for Harvard (2016-17)…her dad is Clark Thiel...Makenna Thiel, a blue-chip recruit, was rated as high as No. 24 on TennisRecruiting.net...in 2018, Thiel won the North Coast Section doubles title in 2018, and the following year she captured the Northern California Junior Sectional singles championship and also reached the doubles final at junior sectionals…in 2021, she won the West Alameda Coast Conference singles championship…the Piedmont High School captain as a senior in 2020-21, Thiel posted a 29-1 record at No. 1 singles…Thiel advanced to the singles semifinals of the Olympic Club Wildcard Challenge in San Francisco in early September.
