Men's and Women's Track and Field Win at Davis

DAVIS, Calif. - The California men's and women's track and field teams swept the team competition at the UC Davis five-team meet Saturday under adverse windy conditions. The Bear women won the meet with a score of 191.5, while UC Davis and Nevada tied for second with a score of 140. The Bear men won their competition with a score of 219, while Cal Poly finished second at 192.

The Cal women finished first in 10-of-18 events. Senior Kristin Heaston led the way by winning the discus (150-10.0) and placing second in the shot put (48-0.75). Two of Cal's best marks, however, were second-place finishes. Redshirt freshman Kenya Corley finished second in the long jump in a Pac-10 qualifying mark of 19-3.5. Sophomore Mandy Mazik also placed second in the 100m hurdles in a personal best 14.26, a Pac-10 qualifying mark, as well.

The Cal men placed first in nine-of-19 events. Two of the highlights include freshman Marlon Beaver winning the 110m hurdles, recording a personal best and Pac-10 qualifying time of 14.33. Patrick Leonard won the high jump competition for Cal with a Pac-10 qualifying mark of 6-9.75.

The Bears next host the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, their second and final home meet of the season Saturday, April 10. The meet takes place at Cal State Sacramento's Hornet Stadium as Edward Stadium in Berkeley is still under reconstruction.
