BERKELEY -
Midfielder/forward
Ashley Glosz scored two goals, including the gamewinner, to lead California to a 2-1 victory over NorPac Conference rival and 20th-ranked Stanford on Sunday, wrapping up a stellar stretch of play for the junior to make her the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week.
The Stanford win gave the Golden Bears, who have a 6-1 overall record and a 4-0 conference record, sole possession of first place in the NorPac Conference and extended Cal's winning streak against Stanford to 17 games. Cal also handed the Cardinal (6-1, 4-1) its first loss of the season.
Glosz got the gamewinner against the Cardinal on Maxwell Family Field in the 57th minute. Cal sophomore forward Kellie York fired a shot, Glosz collected the rebound and shot the ball off of the goalkeeper's pads into the far right corner. In the 65th minute after a Stanford penalty corner, Glosz made a defensive save to help preserve the victory.
Glosz has scored a goal or an assist in each of Cal's last five games, during which she scored all 12 of her points (5 goals, 2 assists) this season. She also has two game-winning goals.
