BERKELEY - California has signed Trey Cheek to a National Letter of Intent to join the Golden Bears football program, head coach Sonny Dykes announced Tuesday. The addition brings the number of signees in the team's 2013 recruiting class to 26. The total number includes 20 student-athletes previously announced on National Signing Day in February, as well as five announced as mid-year enrollees in December and January.
"Trey is an outstanding addition to our 2013 signing class that has many outstanding individuals who will be great fits at Cal on the field, in the classroom and in our community," Dykes said. "We appreciate Trey's patience in completing the process."
The four-year prep starter and second-team All-Gwinnett County choice as a senior joins a 2013 Cal recruiting class ranked as high as No. 22 nationally by MaxPreps. The ranking is the second-highest in the country among schools with a head coaching change following the 2012 campaign, with only Auburn's class ranked higher. The Bears checked in on other major recruiting lists at No. 30 (ESPN), No. T31 (Scout), No. 32 (Rivals) and No. 42 (247Sports). Cal has now had a recruiting class ranked in the top 25 for four consecutive seasons.
Cal is currently in midst of spring football practices that will conclude with the 2013 Cal Football Spring Game to be televised live by the Pac-12 Networks on Saturday, March 23 (4 p.m. PT).
Cal will play seven home games at Memorial Stadium in 2013 beginning with a three-game homestand to open the season against non-conference opponents Northwestern (Aug. 31), Portland State (Sept. 7) and Ohio State (Sept. 14). Cal will also host Pac-12 contests against Washington State on Homecoming Weekend (Oct. 5), Oregon State (Oct. 19), Arizona (Nov. 2) and USC (Nov. 9). The Bears have road game scheduled at Oregon (Sept. 28), UCLA (Oct. 12), Washington (Oct. 26), Colorado (Nov. 16) and Stanford (Nov. 23). Kickoff times and television selections for all 2013 Cal football games will be announced at later dates.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING
ESPN: Cheek is a smart and savvy cornerback prospect with a lot of intangibles that may be falling under the radar ... Overall, Cheek may not be the biggest or fastest cornerback in this class, but he is up there when it comes to instincts.
