California Men's Water Polo Defeats Pacific, 15-6
PLEASANT HILL, Calf. -- The California men's water polo team opened its 1997 season outscoring the Pacific Tigers, 15-6.
The leading scorers for Cal were junior drivers Brad Kittredge and Peter Stern. Stern scored four goals in the second half of the match, while Kittredge scored three goals along with one four-meter penalty shot to assist the Bears. Senior two- meter co-captain Brent Albright also scored one four-meter penalty shot as well as two additional goals, one in both the first and second periods.
The Tigers were led by two-meter senior Ryan Bazeley who scored three goals and two-meter junior Gabe Esposto who scored two goals. Senior goalkeeper Beau Barbour also finished strong with eight saves.
The Tigers led the first 1:13 of the match with a goal scored by junior driver Roman Yegiyants, but the Bears came back with two goals by Kittredge and one goal by Albright in the first quarter. The Bears continued to dominate the match, scoring three goals in the second quarter, four in the third quarter and five in the final quarter.
The Bears will next face the UC Davis Aggies tomorrow at Diablo Valley College Pool in Pleasant Hill at 11 a.m.
