Men's Water Polo Defeats Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif.- California (18-5) scored the final five goals of the match, as the #5 Bears defeated #7 Pacific (6-10) 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.

The teams played even in the first half, as the score was tied 1-1 at halftime. Senior Brian Basye gave trhe Tigers a 1-0 lead with 4:10 remaining in the first quarter, but Cal came back with a goal bt Peter Stern to even the score at 1-1 with 2:57 left in the first quarter. Niether team scored in the second quarter. Basye again gave the Tigers the lead, scoring with 5:07 left in the third quarter. Cal's Ryan Flynn evened the score at 2-2 with a goal at the 4:08 mark of the third quarter. After a Cal steal, Jeff Moloughney scored the game winning goal 17 seconds later. Brent Albright scored with 1:24 left in the third quarter to make the score 4-2. Cal added two goals in the fourth quarter, one by Brad Kittredge (3:58) and a second goal by Albright (2:26).

Both teams played outstanding defense throughout the contest, with both goalkeepers making great saves. Peter Kiefer had 10 saves for California, while senior Beau Barbour had eight saves for the Tigers.

Today's meeting was a non-league matchup between the two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation members. Cal's 15-6 victory on September 13th was counted as a league contest.
