California Men's Water Polo Defeats UC Davis, 21-5
PLEASANT HILL, Calf. - The California men's's water polo team
defeated UC Davis , 21-5, Sunday at the Diablo Valley College Pool to
finish off its opening weekend with a 2-0 record. The Aggies fall to
0-2.
Junior driver Phinney Gardner led the Bears with four goals in the
second half of the match. Two-meter junior Ryan Flynn followed,
scoring three goals, two in the first quarter and one in the third.
The UC Davis Aggies were led by senior driver Mike Gotelli who scored
one goal in both the second and fourth quarters and junior driver Joel
Higgins who scored one two-point goal in the second quarter. UC Davis
goalkeeper Mike DeJong tallied seven saves for the match.
The Bears outscored the Aggies in all four quarters by three or more
goals, and nine members of the Golden Bears squad scored two or more
goals during the match. The Bears next travel to Los Angeles, CA for
the Southern California Tournament, all day Sat.-Sun., Sept. 20-21.
