4th-Ranked California Defeats UC Irvine 7-1
IRVINE, Calif.- Seven different California players scored as the Golden Bears defeated sixth-ranked UC Irvine, 7-1, in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo action at Heritage Park Friday night.
California led 5-0 after one quarter on goals by Brent Albright, Ramsey Ross, Ryan Flynn, Brad Kittredge and Jeff Moloughney.
The Bears' Albert Won scored an extra man goal in the second period gor a 6-0 halftime lead and Chris Dornin extended the lead to 7-0 with a third-quarter goal.
Freshman Mike Foley (Tustin HS) put UCI on the board with a goal at the 4:59 mark of the fourth quarter.
Goalie Peter Kiefer had 10 saves for Cal, while Tom Davis had six for the Anteaters.
Cal improved to 14-4 overall and 5-1 in the MPSF, while UCI fell to 6-9 overall and 1-3 in the league.
