Wayne Hunter Bio - The University of California Official Athletic Site

A big, physical player who could emerge as a starter at defensive end this fall after getting a solid amount of playing time during his debut season in '99...coaches are toying with the idea of inserting him into one of the defensive end positions, allowing Andre Carter to move to rush end where his pass rushing skills can be best utilized...is hoping to play in the 270 to 275-pound range, down 10 pounds from last year, and thus improving his quickness...

1999...played in 10 of 11 games as a true-freshman and acquitted himself well...finished the year with 14 tackles, 5 behind the line of scrimmage...best game came late in the year against Oregon when he accounted for three tackles for loss (minus 13 yards), including a half-sack for minus 10 yards...had a six-yard sack vs. USC.

High School/Personal: Played primarily at linebacker as a 255-pound prep at Radford HS...earned PrepStar All-America honors, rating as the No. 11 defensive line prospect in the West...chose Cal after considering Arizona, Washington and Oregon, among others...also a standout track and field weightman as a prep... competed on his prep canoe team, which has races as much as three miles or more between the islands...stepfather is Fia and mother is Francis Hunter...plans to major psychology at Cal with an eye towards counseling at the high school level...born July 2, 1981 in Honolulu, HI.
