Cal sophomore Roser Tarrago has been named MVP of the MPSF Tournament after scoring six goals last weekend and leading the Bears to the championship game.
Fellow sophomore Dora Antal was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Tarrago’s six goals ranked third for the tournament while she also added three assists. Four of her goals came in the title game against UCLA, which the Bears narrowly lost 9-8.
Tarrago also had a goal, an assist and won three of four sprints to help Cal upset No. 1 Stanford 8-7 in the tournament semifinals – the Bears’ first win over the Cardinal in 41 tries.
Antal scored a goal in each game of the tournament, helping the Bears defeat Arizona State 5-4 in the quarterfinals before moving to beat Stanford and get clipped by the Bruins. Antal leads the Bears with 60 goals this season.
The Bears received a berth in the NCAA Championships on Monday – their fourth trip to the tourney in six years. Cal opens play in the quarterfinals on May 8 against UC Irvine.
