A two-time All-American in 1947 and '48 … came to Cal in 1941-42 and set a national intercollegiate record for freshmen in the 50 freestyle (23.5) … set the Cal school record for the 100 free in 1942-43 … left school during WWII for the next four years … finished third in the 100 meter free in the national AAU championships in 1946 … took third in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 free at the national intercollegiate meet as a junior in 1947, earning All-America honors … also lettered three years in water polo … served as the president of the Big C Society in 1975-76.
