Trey Newman is in his second season on the Cal baseball staff in 2026 as the team's Director of Offensive Strategy and Analysis.
A catcher by nature, Newman has earned the privilege of writing development plans for the Bears' backstops in addition to being in charge of all offensive analytics. Additionally he assists with the hitting development and team offense.
This past summer Newman coached in the West Coast League, a wooden-bat summer league that is intended to help college players foster professional, innovative development. He served as a 3rd base coach and worked with hitters and catchers.
Prior to joining the Bears Newman had a successful collegiate playing career behind the dish. After starting at Utah Valley in 2021, Newman helped lead Central Arizona CC to an NJCAA National Championship in 2022. He was the team captain and was named to the All-Juco World Series Team. He finished his playing career at Arizona State from 2022-2024 where he also held the title of team captain.
