Kristy Illg is heading into her third season as an assistant athletic trainer with Cal football in 2017 as the rehabilitation coordinator.  She has been a part of its sports medicine volunteer network since 2004. 

Illg worked at a local outpatient physical therapy office, and worked in the athletic training room and provided game coverage. Additionally, Illg later worked for UC Davis Athletics as a physical therapist and athletic trainer from 2007-08. She interned at the U.S. Olympic Training Center and continues to provide medical coverage for BMX SX World Cups and USA swimming events, both nationally and internationally.

She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Sacramento State and then earned her master’s degree in physical therapy from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

She is a Sports Certified Specialist (SCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS).  With her combined Certification in Athletic Training (ATC), license in Physical Therapy, Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), she is able to provide game coverage, injury rehabilitation, injury prevention and develop return to play programs for athletes of all levels.

Illg utilizes manual therapy and exercise prescription to address underlying biomechanical dysfunction and musculoskeletal imbalances that result in injury, and she knows the proper mechanics required by most sports. Illg has contributed to the book “Drills and Instruction for Coaching Youth Baseball,” and works with the All Pro Baseball Group educating parents and little league/softball coaches.
