Summer Pierson enters her fifth year as a volunteer assistant coach for Cal track & field in 2022-23, assisting with the throws.
A three-time Highland Games world champion, Pierson’s professional throwing career includes a first-place finish in the discus throw at the 2015 NACAC Senior Area Championships and a fifth-place finish in the same event at the 2007 Pan American Games.
Pierson spent her collegiate years throwing for Stanford University, where she competed in the NCAA Championships each year. Prior to that, she attended Niskayuna High School in Schenectady, N.Y., where she won the state championship in the discus, javelin and shot put, also posting school records for all three events.
She is a credited actress and writer, and possesses a master’s degree in genetic counseling.
