Jorge Penate enters his first season as the technical coordinator for the Golden Bears. He will oversee all film, video and statistical analysis efforts in both practice and competition settings.
Penate lands in Berkeley after spending a year as the volunteer assistant for the Saint Mary's women's volleyball team where he oversaw the team's serving and passing, and was heavily involved in video analytics and scouting report creation. He assisted in the creation of social media content across all the channels.
Penate has been active with the USA Volleyball National High Performance department since 2012. He was a part of the coaching staff for several National Training Programs across various age groups.
Penate has coached varsity teams at local Bay Area high schools - including The Branson School, Bishop O'Dowd HS and Berkeley HS. At Branson, he served as co-head coach for one season joining the Bulls Michelle Brazil and helped lead the team to their 8th consecutive NCS pennant and as CIF NorCal semifinalists. At Bishop O'Dowd, he served as a varsity head coach and a director of the volleyball program for two season. He led the Dragons to an overall record of 55-19, back-to-back undefeated WACC league championships, an NCS pennant and two trips to the CIF NorCal playoffs. Prior to Bishop O'Dowd, Penate also coached at Berkeley High as a head coach and led his team to place second in the WACC league standings.
Penate has also been involved in the junior club volleyball scene since 2009, starting with Golden Bear Volleyball Club. Most recently, Penate served as a head coach for Red Rock Volleyball Club from 2014-18 having numerous teams qualify in Open, National and American divisions while serving as director of the beach program.
The Los Angeles, CA native graduated from Los Altos High School (Hacienda Heights) in 2007 where he lettered in volleyball, basketball, track and cross-country. Sanders was a four-year letterwinner on the volleyball and basketball teams. He attended UC Berkeley (2007-2010) and majored in Entrepreneurship and Technology while still playing both beach and indoor, and coaching youth club volleyball programs.
