Assistant Director Dean Caparaz completed his 23rd year of working at his alma mater in 2025-26.
A San Francisco Bay Area product, Caparaz graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English literature at UC Berkeley, where the aspiring journalist covered sports for The Daily Californian. After graduation, he joined the editorial staff of Soccer America magazine in Berkeley and for the next 11 years reported on the U.S. Women’s National Team and women’s college soccer. He covered the USWNT in a pair of Women's World Cups (1995 in Sweden and 1999 in the U.S.) and an Olympics (1996 in Athens, Georgia, and elsewhere in the South), which was the first edition of the Summer Games to feature women's soccer.
After leaving Soccer America, Caparaz began working for Cal Athletic Media Relations, the precursor to Cal Athletics Communications.
Caparaz lives in the East Bay with his wife and two daughters.
