Berkeley. Calif. - After dropping a three-overtime thriller vs. No. 3 USC last night, the Golden Bears came out on a mission this morning, pounding in 12 goals for a 12-7 victory over No. 8 Loyola Marymount in Cal's third match of the NorCal Tournament in Berkeley. The Bears will face Pepperdine at 2:10 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics, for the right to claim a fifth place finish.

Cal featured a balanced scoring attack with seven players scratching the scoreboard and five in double figures. Will Quist and Chris Lathrop both added a pair of goals against the Lions to lead the Bears with four goals each in this weekend's action.

The teams were knotted at three goals apiece before Cal went on a scoring binge, tallying five unanswered goals to go into the break with a commanding 8-3 lead. The Lions made a comeback bid, outscoring the Bears 6-4 in second half action, but Cal's solid defensive play down the stretch secured the 12-7 victory and a chance to meet Pepperdine in the 5th place matchup.

Junior goalkeeper Tim Kates recorded eight saves while his counterpart Kevin Paulsen tallied seven.
