No. 3 Men's Water Polo Opens 2003 Season With 13-7 Win at Pacific

STOCKTON, CA - The No. 3 ranked California men's water polo team started off the 2003 season on a strong note with a 13-7 victory over Pacific Saturday afternoon at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. The Bears were led by senior Attila Banhidy, true freshman Andrija Vasiljevic and redshirt freshman Brian Bacharach with three goals apiece. Senior Tim Kates (five saves) and sophomore Nate Bennett combined for six saves for Cal.
The Bears started off the day jumping out to a 5-2 lead after the first period. Cal continued its advantage, outscoring the Tigers 8-5 the rest of the way. Senior Greg Panawek, junior Joe Born, sophomore Vincent Bevins and redshirt freshman Brian Kinsel also tallied goals for Cal.
The Bears will next travel to UC San Diego, Friday, Sept. 19 at 3 p.m. Cal will then compete at the Southern California Tournament, Sept. 20-21 in Newport Beach, Calif.
