Cal Men's Water Polo Defeats Navy and Bucknell

ANNAPOLIS, MD -
The California men's water polo team (4-0) topped host Navy, 7-5, and Bucknell, 18-4, Sunday at the Navy Open in Annapolis, Md. The Golden Bears finished the early season tournament 4-0 after victories over Johns Hopkins (18-2) and St. Francis (10-7) on Saturday.
Cal defeated a Navy squad that finished 25-8 and had advanced to the NCAA Tournament final four last season. The Bears jumped out to a 4-2 halftime lead and held on for the 7-5 win. Sophomore center Brian Kinsel led Cal with four goals, sophomore driver Brian Bacharach added two goals and sophomore center John Mann had one goal.
In the 18-4 victory over Bucknell, Mann paced the Bears with four goals and Bacharach chipped in three goals. Other top scorers for Cal were senior Alexander Niehenke with three goals and freshmen Zac Monsees and Dan Werner with two goals apiece.
The Bears return to Berkeley to host an alumni match on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 12 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Complex, before travelling to UC Davis to face the Aggies on Sunday, Sept. 12, at 12 p.m.
