SANTA CLARA, CALIF. - The No. 1-ranked Cal men's water polo team jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first period and went on to cruise to a 16-7 victory over No. 12-ranked Santa Clara Thursday night at Sullivan Aquatic Center in Santa Clara. The Golden Bears, who were led by junior Jack Stampfl's career-high four goals, won their 11th match in a row to improve to 19-2 overall.
Senior center Zach White added three goals, and junior Luka Saponjic and freshman Collin Smith had two goals apiece. Senior Brian Dudley, junior Ivan Rackov, junior Cory Nasoff and freshmen Giacomo Cupido and Hunter Gettelfinger also scored for the Bears.
Rackov, who leads Cal and the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with 61 goals on the year, paced the Bears with six assists and five steals versus the Broncos, who fell to 17-13.
"Overall, it was a pretty good effort for us," said Cal coach Kirk Everist. "We were able to get a lot of players in tonight. Now we just have to refocus for our conference match at Pacific."
