Golden Bears Won Back-To-Back Conference Titles In 2012 And 2013

• Pac-12 Championships Info – Cal will play at the 2017 Pac-12 Championships co-hosted by Colorado and the Pac-12 this Friday-Sunday, Apr. 28-30, 2017. The 72-hole tournament will be played at the par-70, 7,209-yard Boulder Country Club in Boulder, Colo. The first 36 holes of the event are scheduled to be Thursday with the first tee time scheduled for 7:30 am MT/6:30 am PT, followed by 18 holes both Friday (10 am MT/9 am PT) and Saturday (8 am MT/7 am PT). The top five players each round in each team's six-player lineup will count towards the team score.

• Morikawa Honored For Terrific Season – Collin Morikawa has earned several honors to this point of the 2016-17 campaign with the most recent his selection as one of 10 national semifinalists for The Ben Hogan Award presented annually to the top men's Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions from the 2016 NCAA Championships through the 2017 NCAA Regionals. • First Win Highlights Morikawa's Play – Collin Morikawa won his first collegiate tournament March 18-19 at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational after having reached a playoff for the first time ever in his previous event at the prestigious Southern Highlands Collegiate (March 6-8). The two showings are among five top-five and seven top-10 finishes in nine stroke-play starts in 2016-17. Morikawa is fourth in the nation with a 69.78 season stroke average. In 2015-16, Morikawa tied for 10th at the NCAA Championships, earned third-team All-American honors, was the first Cal player to earn Freshman All-American honors and was the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year. He has seven top-five, 14 top-10 and 20 top-20 finishes in 23 career stroke-play starts.

• More Morikawa – In 2016 Morikawa also won the Sunnehanna Amateur, tied for second after reaching a playoff as an amateur at his first Web.com Tour event at the Air Capital Classic presented by Aetna, reached the round of 16 at the U.S. Amateur and made his PGA TOUR debut as an amateur at the Safeway Open.

• Aldred's Two Holes-In-One At Western – William Aldred recorded holes-in-one during back-to-back rounds of the Western Intercollegiate on April 8 and 9. Aldred used a seven-iron to pick up his hole-in-one during Sunday's third round on the 177-yard par-three eighth after hitting a nine-iron for an ace in Saturday's second round on the 141-yard par-three No. 15. Former Cal head coach Steve Desimone said he had seen "two, maybe three" Cal players with a hole-in-one in 37 seasons at the helm. Aldred called his accomplishment "bizarre".

• Chun In Charge – Walter Chun is in his first season as Cal's Alex and Marie Shipman Director of Men's Golf after he was named to the position on Aug. 1, 2016, replacing former head coach Steve Desimone, who retired at the end of the 2015-16 campaign after 37 seasons at the helm. Chun is in his 20th season associated with the Cal men's golf program previously serving as associate head coach (2009-16), assistant coach (2004-09) and administrative assistant (2002-04) after his playing career for the Golden Bears (1997-2002).

• Cal's Pac-12 Championships History – Cal won the Pac-12 Championships for the first two times in school history in back-to-back fashion in 2012 at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis and 2013 at the Los Angeles Country Club's North Course. Cal tied for its third-best finish ever at the event last season with a second-place showing at the Salt Lake City Country Club with the team's other second-place finish in 1995 at Meadow Springs Golf Club in Richland, Wash. Three Cal players have won individual Pac-12 titles with Charlie Wi the first in 1995 followed by Eric Mina in 2010 at the ASU Karsten Club and Max Homa in 2013. Collin Morikawa is the only player in the 2017 Cal lineup that has played at the event before. Morikawa tied for 15th in 2016.

• Upcoming Schedule – The Pac-12 Championships (Apr. 28-30) will be followed by the NCAA Regionals (May 15-17) at a site to be determined and the NCAA Championships (May 26-31) at Rich Harvest Farms Golf Club in Sugar Grove, Ill. Team and individual winners from 31 conferences including the Pac-12 have been granted automatic qualifications to 2017 NCAA Regional play. The golf committee shall select a total of 81 teams (including automatic qualifiers) and 45 individuals not on those teams for participation at the regionals with the announcement scheduled to be made live on the Golf Channel on Thursday, May 4 (9 am PT).

• Season Rewind – Cal posted its top two finishes of the 2016-17 season in its first two tournaments of the spring, tying for fifth at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate after opening the spring with a sixth-place showing at the Arizona Intercollegiate while the Golden Bears were also eighth at ASU Thunderbird Invitational. Cal also had finishes of either eighth (Gopher Invitational, Maui Jim Invitational) or tied for eighth (Alister MacKenzie Invitational) in each its first three events of the 2016 fall schedule. Cal has also competed in stroke-play events at the Southern Highlands Collegiate (12th), Western Intercollegiate (13th), Cabo Collegiate (14th) and Tavistock Collegiate Invitational (15th), in addition to reaching the consolation finals of the Cypress Point Invitational.

• Three Key Players Out – Three of the four Cal players returning from the lineup at the 2016 NCAA Championships – Jamie Cheatham, Sebastian Crampton and KK Limbhasut – are redshirting and have not played in 2016-17. All are expected to return for the 2017-18 campaign.
