BERKELEY - With the regular season winding down, California will look to improve on its season best times and marks in three meets this weekend. While the Golden Bears will send student-athletes to Stanford for the Payton Jordan Invitational and the Sacramento Open, highlighting the weekend's competition will be Tyler Brendel representing the Bears in the decathlon at the Pac-12 Multi Championships.

Brendel currently ranks 24th in the nation (third in the Pac-12) in the decathlon. The top 24 decathletes qualify for the NCAA Championships, so Brendel will look to improve his ranking in the conference meet.

The Bears have three competitors in the top 12 in the current national rankings. Bethan Knights is sixth in the 10,000m (33:31.25), while Ashtyn Davis (110m high hurdles, 13.65) and Peter Simon (shot put, 63-8.25, 19.41m) rank 12th. Knights leads the Pac-12, while Davis is second and Simon third in those events.

• LAST TIME OUT: BRUTUS HAMILTON
At last week's Brutus Hamilton Challenge, Jordyn Colter ran to second in the Louise Romo 800m (2:05.46) placing her No. 8 in school history. Marissa Williams improved her personal best by five seconds, winning the Marilyn Davis 1500m in 4:19.77, which also moved her to eighth all-time at Cal. In the women's triple jump, Ashley Anderson won the event and increased her PR to 42-9.00, which kept her No. 7 in Cal history.

Zion Corrales Nelson claimed the women's 100m in 11.77 seconds, which ranks 10th in school history. She covered the 200m in 23.74, good for No. 8 in Cal history with the fastest mark for the Bears in four years.

• BEARS IN THE PAC-12 RANKINGS
In addition to Bethan Knights and Ashtyn Davis, Cal has four other competitors that rank second in the Pac-12 rankings - Ashley Anderson in the triple jump (13.03m), Robert Brandt in the 10,000m (28:48.38), Kendall Mader in the discus (53.22m) and Destiny Parker in the hammer (61.69m).

• BRENDEL AT MT. SAC MULTIS
Tyler Brendel was the top collegiate finisher and was second overall in Group A of the men's decathlon at the Mt. Sac Multis held on the Azusa Pacific campus on April 12 and 13. Brendel totaled 7347 points, and his 1500m time of 4:25.69 was a PR.

• LAST YEAR'S PAC-12 MULTIS
Tyler Brendel placed ninth out of ten competitors at the 2016 Pac-12 Multis. Brendel finished the decathlon with 6,932 points - 90 points off of the season best of 7.022 he set at the Sacramento State Invitational in March.

• LAST YEAR'S PAYTON JORDAN
At last year's Payton Jordan Invite., Cal enjoyed five new or updated entries into the school's all-time top 10 list, 11 outdoor personal bests and five event/section victories. Kai Benedict ran a 8:55.30 in the 3000, which set a new personal best, ranks 10th on Cal's all-time list and topped a Cal Freshman record that stood for over 30 years (8:58.91, Steve Valen, 1983).

Following this weekend's action, the Bears will head to Eugene, Ore., for the 2017 Pac-12 Championships from May 13-14.
