PULLMAN, Washington – The Cal women's soccer team heads out on its final road trip of the 2018 season, facing off against Washington State and Washington. The Golden Bears (5-9-2. 1-6-1 Pac-12) will square off against the Cougars (10-5-0, 3-5-0 Pac-12) at 7 p.m. PT on Thursday night in Pullman, Washington, before squaring off against the Huskies (7-8-1, 2-6-0 Pac-12) in Seattle on Sunday for a 1 p.m. kickoff. The Bears enter the weekend looking to snap a two-game winless streak, but have had success away from home as of late. Cal picked up points in each of its last two road games, beating Oregon, 2-1, on October 7 and playing Arizona to a 3-3 double-overtime draw on October 13. Cal is 2-3-1 overall on the road this season, with all but one of its losses coming against Top-25 opponents.
"From start to finish, our team has really fought all season," said Bears' head coach Neil McGuire. "The breaks haven't gone our way and there's been some areas we clearly have to get better in, but I'm very proud of our players for their fight and the grit that they show. This weekend will be no different. Washington and Washington State are two great programs with two great coaches, and we're looking forward to the battle."
The Bears won the battle with both Washington schools last season, opening Pac-12 play with a 1-0 road victory in Seattle behind Anja Koehler's first collegiate goal. Cal followed it up several weeks later with a 2-0 victory over Washington State in Berkeley, with goals by Miranda Nild and Kayla Fong.
Koehler, Fong, and Nild have all found the back of the net multiple times this season, while junior Abi Kim, who grew up in Vashon, Washington, leads the Bears in scoring with five goals this season. Sophomore Emma Westin leads the Bears with 12 overall points this season (4 goals, 4 assists), and assisted Kim's goal in Cal's most recent outing against Utah.
Washington State enters the weekend looking to snap a five-game losing streak and is coming off a 2-1 loss at Arizona.
Sunday's game in Seattle features a very familiar face on the opposing sideline in Washington head coach Lesle Gallimore. Gallimore, now in her 25th season with the Huskies, was a four-time All-American at Cal and is a member of the Cal Athletic Hall of Fame and Cal Women's Soccer Lair of Legends.

LAST TIME OUT
A four-minute span early in the second half proved to be pivotal on Sunday afternoon, as Utah knocked off Cal in a 2-1, come-from-behind victory at Edwards Stadium. The Golden Bears carried a 1-0 lead into the locker after Abi Kim scored her team-leading fifth goal of the year, but the Utes responded with goals in both the 51st and 54th minute to hand the Bears the home defeat. Cal came within inches of tying the match in the final seconds of the game, but freshman Paige Metayer had an attempt headed off the line in the final seconds of the game while another rattled off the crossbar.
Both teams entered Sunday's match look to bounce back from losses on Thursday to ranked opponents, with Cal falling to No. 15 Colorado and the Utes coming off a 2-0 loss to No. 1 Stanford.
Utah quickly took momentum in the second half and erased the deficit in the 51st minute, when Makayla Christensen finished a rebound in the box. Less than four minutes, Utah took the lead for good on Paola van der Veen's seventh goal of the season.
Olivia Sekany made the start and one save for the Bears in 70 minutes of action, while redshirt junior Brooke Lisowski played the final 20 minutes of the match for Cal.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
After opening the season on a 10-game winning streak, the Cougars are looking to snap a skid of their own and get back in the win column. Washington State enters Thursday's match on a five-game losing streak, three of those losses coming in one-goal games. Washington State's last victory came on its home turf, a 2-0 victory over Oregon State on September 30 behind goals from Maegan O'Neill and Maddy Haro.
Haro, a senior from Corona, California, leads the Pac-12 with 11 assists on the season and has also tallied two goals on the year. O'Neill, a senior midfielder from Spokane, Washington, is second on the team in scoring with five goals and scored the Cougars' lone goal on Sunday against Arizona. Morgan Weaver leads the team in scoring with seven goals on the season and also leads the Pac-12 with a total of 67 shots on the season.
Redshirt junior Rachel Thomas has been the starting goalkeeper throughout Pac-12 play, conceding a total of 11 goals on the season.
Head coach Todd Shulenberger is in his fourth season in Pullman and led the Cougars to the program's deepest NCAA Tournament run in 2017, advancing to the third round. Washington State was ranked 19th in the 2017 end of season poll and was ranked as high as No. 7 this season in the United Soccer Coaches' Poll.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Washington also enters the weekend looking to snap a five-game skid and is coming off a 2-1 defeat at Arizona State. After dropping their conference opener at No. 3 USC, the Huskies swept both Oregon and Oregon State at home, but have gone winless since.
Olivia Van Der Jaget leads the Huskies in scoring this season with five goals, while also adding an assist on the year. Goalkeeper Siena Rulas is fifth in the Pac-12 with a total of 58 saves this season.
The longest-tenured head coach in the Pac-12, Lesle Gallimore is in her 25th season as head coach of the Huskies, having surpassed the 250 win mark last season. A 1986 Cal graduate and four-time All-American defender, Gallimore served as an assistant coach for the Bears from 1986 to 1989. Gallimore has led the Huskies to 14 trips to the NCAA Tournament, including Elite Eight appearances in 2004 and 2010.
Washington squares off against Stanford on Thursday evening, taking on the top-ranked Cardinal at 5 p.m. PT at Husky Soccer Stadium.
NEXT UP
The Bears return to Berkeley to play their final game of the season, hosting Bay Area rival Stanford at 3 p.m. PT on Friday, November 2. The defending NCAA champions, the Cardinal are currently ranked No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches' poll and enter the weekend unbeaten. Cal's four-member senior class – Emily Kasa, Anja Koehler, Brooke Lisowski, and Miranda NIld – will be recognized prior to Friday's match for Senior Day. During their time in Berkeley, this senior class has helped the Bears to postseason appearances as well as academic honors.
