Six Student-Athletes From Group To Join Golden Bears As Mid-Year Enrollees In January

BERKELEY – Head coach Justin Wilcox announced the first 25 members of Cal's 2019 recruiting class Wednesday on the opening day of college football's early signing period.

The class that is currently the largest in the Pac-12 has played in eight state championship games paced by three-time Arizona state champion DeCarlos Brooks, who led Chandler High School to state titles in each of his final three prep campaigns while combining to rush for 3863 yards and 51 touchdowns. Brayden Rohme and McKade Mettauer helped their teams play in a combined five state title games with Rohme going to three in Arizona and Mettauer two in Texas.

Nine other members of the class (Blake Antzoulatos, Spencer Brasch, Brooks, Trevon Clark, Ben Coleman, Braxton Croteau, Brian Driscoll, McKade Mettauer, Makai Polk) won at least one league title each. while 12 members of the class combined to play for 20 teams that recorded double-digit victories.

The 13 student-athletes on defense include Antzoulatos, Ben Coleman, Braxten Croteau, Kuony Deng, Myles Jernigan, Brett Johnson, Jaylen Martin, Orin Patu, Ryan Puskas, Kyle Smith, Miles Williams, Craig Woodson, Curley Young).

The 12 on the offensive side of the ball are Brasch, Brooks, Trevon Clark, DeShawn Collins, Kekoa Crawford, Driscoll, Jawaun Johnson, Mettauer, Devon Modster, Elijah Mojarro, Polk and Rohme.

Six of the members of the class (Clark, Collins, Crawford, Deng, Johnson, Modster) are transfers with Crawford (Michigan) and Modster (UCLA) having played previously at the four-year level.

Clark (No. 2 ESPN wide receiver), Deng (No. 3 ESPN outside linebacker) and Johnson (No. 8 247Sports wide receiver) all have top-10 national junior college rankings at their position, while Brasch (No. 7 247Sports dual-threat quarterback), Patu (No. 14 247Sports outside linebacker), Mettauer (Rivals No. 20 offensive guard) and Smith (No. 23 ESPN inside linebacker) have top-25 national prep rankings at their positions.

The six mid-year enrollees in the class scheduled to join the Bears in January of 2019 are Collins, Croteau, Deng, Modster, Patu and Polk. The remainder of the class is scheduled to arrive on campus during the summer prior to the 2019 season.
