Fast Break: Grant Anticevich

With nine newcomers on this year's Cal Men's Basketball roster, there are plenty of fresh faces to get to know among the Golden Bears. The Fast Break is bringing five key facts about a Cal newcomer to CalBears.com. The final student-athlete in the series is freshman and Sydney, Australia native Grant Anticevich.

1. Feels Like Home

Adjusting to life in Berkeley has been a seamless adjustment for Anticevich because he views his new locale as similar to his hometown of Sydney, Australia.

"Of all the places that I've visited in America, the Bay Area, and Berkeley in particular is the most similar to Sydney," Anticevich explained. "San Francisco isn't too dissimilar to Sydney. Geographically it's a bit different, but lifestyle wise, and demographically it's similar to Sydney, so it's been an easy transition."

2. Picture This

Starting at a young age, Anticevich grew passionate about photography, and it is a hobby he still enjoys to this day because of his grandfather's influence.

"My grandfather really enjoys photography. He loves it, and is passionate about it," Anticevich discussed. "He's been doing that all his life pretty much, and he kind of just introduced me to it. He loves it as a hobby, and that's his passion, so I kind of just started doing it with him, it grew on me, and now I love it too."

3. Zdravo!

Something unique about Anticevich is that along with English he is fluent in Croatian. His family is originally from Croatia, so he uses the language to communicate with immediate and extended family members.

4. Golden Oldies

Anticevich has a deep appreciation for previous eras' music and enjoys listening to artists such as Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra.

"I really listen to any type of music, but Dean Martin is probably one of my favorite singers," Anticevich said. "Even Frank Sinatra, I would have to put him in there too. Dean Martin is my guy though.

Anticevich also enjoys listening to AC/DC ("the Australian band"), the Drifters and the Beatles.

5. Psyched Up

Anticevich has his sights set on potentially majoring in Psychology because of the variety of job opportunities it presents.

"It's a major that's applicable in a lot of areas," Anticevich explained. "I'm not sure what area of psychology I would be interested in going into yet, but I figured that psychology is a great major to have. You can use it in a lot of areas, and a lot of different fields. You don't pigeonhole yourself by doing psychology, so I feel like it's a great option for me."
