Angelina Anderson To Join Under-20 USWNT For Nike International Friendlies

CHICAGO – After a standout first season in Berkeley, Cal goalkeeper Angelina Anderson has been called into camp with the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team for the upcoming Nike International Friendlies, the federation and head coach Mark Carr announced on Wednesday. Anderson is one of 34 players called in for the tournament, which will be held at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.

The U.S. will be split into two squads for competitions against France and Brazil, with matches to be played on Wednesday, December 11 and Friday, December 13.  All five tournament games will be streamed live on ussoccer.com, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The tournament will be held in conjunction with the Allstate U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Cup, running from Dec. 8-14 at the Premier Sports Campus. The full release from U.S. Soccer can be found here.

No stranger to international competition, Anderson captained the United States at the 2018 FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup in Uruguay. She was also named to the USA roster for the 2018 FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup in France earlier that summer.

With a wealth of international experience, Anderson quickly made the jump to the collegiate level and climbed through the record books in her first season with the Golden Bears. The 6'0" Danville native started all 21 matches for the Golden Bears and earned First Team All-Region honors, one of only eight freshmen in the nation to earn First Team status. The first player in conference history to be named both the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year and the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, Anderson led the conference with a 0.851 save percentage and tied Cal's freshman shutout record with nine clean sheets on the season. The only freshman to earn Pac-12 First Team honors, Anderson made a total of 86 saves on the year, the second-most in a single season in Cal women's soccer history.

The 2019 Nike International Friendlies serve as preparation for February's CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship to be held in the Dominican Republic. Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2000 are age-eligible for that tournament which will send three countries to the 2020 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
