Conference Play Begins vs. ASU
BERKELEY – California hosts Arizona State in the Golden Bears' PAC Rugby Conference opener Saturday at 1 p.m. on Witter Rugby Field.
The Bears (6-0, 0-0 PAC) are on a short turnaround following Wednesday night's win at Cal Maritime, where an all-freshman-and-sophomore lineup defeated the Keelhaulers, 60-3, in Vallejo.
Arizona State (2-0, 1-0 PAC) got off to a good start in conference play Jan. 26 with a 32-27 over Utah. The Sun Devils' only other 15-a-side action this year was a November victory over Phoenix Men's Club, 36-22.
In the last 15s meeting between Cal and ASU, on Feb. 19, 2018, in Phoenix, the two teams braved strong winds as the Bears won, 72-5, with a lineup including seven frosh-sophs. Future All-American Justin Dunn scored three tries for the Blue and Gold.
Gates open Saturday at noon for the first of three straight weekends at home for Cal, continuing Feb. 16 against Cal Poly and Feb. 23 against British Columbia.
Advance tickets to all home games on Witter Rugby Field are available online. Tickets are $10 each for adults, $5 each for youth ages 10-19 and seniors 65 and older, and $3 each for groups of 10 or more. All Cal students are admitted free, as are all active and veteran military with valid ID.
