BERKELEY - The Cal women's basketball team returns to Haas Pavilion focused on opportunity. The Golden Bears host a pair of AP Top-10 opponents this weekend, with No. 3 Oregon (21-1, 10-0 Pac-12) and No. 7 Oregon State (19-3, 9-1 Pac-12) heading to the Bay Area. The Bears will take on the Ducks at 8 p.m. PT on Friday night before a 1 p.m. showdown with the Beavers on Sunday. Having already earned one major upset win at home with last week's victory over No. 8 Stanford, Cal has the chance to make a statement yet again heading into the back stretch of conference play.
Cal senior Kristine Anigwe also has the opportunity to cement her name atop the record books. Anigwe enters the weekend with 2,320 career points, tied with Colleen Galloway '81 for the most points by any player - male or female - in Cal basketball history. With her next basket, Anigwe will officially break Galloway's 38-year-old record and become the outright leading scorers in school history. The reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week and Citizen Naismith National Player of the Week, Anigwe is coming off of one of the most impressive weekends of her career, posting back-to-back 20-point, 20-rebound performances in Cal's weekend split against No. 8 Stanford. Anigwe extended her double-double streak to 22 in a row, now the fifth-longest streak in Division I Women' Basketball History as she averaged 22.5 points and 22.0 rebounds in two games against the Cardinal.
Anigwe and the Bears will be taking on a high-powered Ducks squad led by reigning Pac-12 Player of the Year Sabrina Ionescu. The all-time NCAA leader in triple-doubles, Ionescu is in the midst of a stellar junior campaign and leads the Ducks in both scoring (18.6 points per game) and assists (8.4 assists per game). Oregon enters the weekend on a 14-game winning streak, the longest active winning streak in the nation, and has won 16 consecutive games in conference play dating back to last season.
The Bears and Ducks met just once last season, a 91-54 victory for Oregon in Eugene. Oregon has won three of the last five meetings between the teams, though neither side has won back-to-back games in the series since a streak of six Golden Bear wins from 2012-15.
