Bears Open Final Homestand with Doubleheader

BERKELEY – California opens its final homestand of the season, a five-game slate, with a doubleheader on Tuesday against Nevada.
The Golden Bears have a quick turnaround with the 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. (PT) games after spending the weekend in Eugene, Ore.
Cal (24-22, 3-14 Pac-12) finished with its first win over Oregon since 2016, a 5-3 victory, but was unable to come away with the series, going scoreless the first two games.
The nonconference bout is the first official meeting between the programs since 2013 when the Bears blanked the Wolf Pack 5-0. More recently, however, Cal hosted Nevada during its fall campaign, but no official score was kept.
The series favors the Bears who have a 25-14-1 edge over the Wolf Pack (23-18, 8-7 MWC).
"I'm looking forward to our next games because the teams are scrappy like us," said head coach Diane Ninemire, looking ahead after Saturday's win. "It's going to take everything we have in order to talk about post season. We'll have to win the majority of our remaining games."
The Bears can begin to make a case for themselves starting Tuesday.

- Assistant coaches Lisa McKinny and Brianne Durfee both played for Oregon State. McKinney caught Durfee for the Beavers 2003-06 and was an All-Pac-10 catcher and qualified all four years for the NCAA regionals, including an appearance in the 2006 Women's College World Series.
- The Wolf Pack was slated sixth in the Mountain West preseason poll, which was voted upon by the league's coaches and announced on Feb. 5. The Pack finished fifth in MW the past two years.
- Kenzi Goins – Mountain West accolades and All-Tournament recognition after the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge is just the beginning for the Reno native. Put together a four-week stretch during conference play having recorded eight multiple hit performances in 11 games, including five three-hit outings and found herself among the best in conference
- Coming off of three conference series losses, most recently against a then No. 25 Colorado State after winning the first game 4-3
