Eden, Horn Taken On Second Day Of MLB Draft
A Total Of Four Bears Have Been Drafted With One Day To Go

Jared Horn heard their names called by Major League clubs Tuesday, making it four Cal players taken so far over the first two days of the baseball draft.
The Toronto Blue Jays grabbed Eden in the sixth round and Horn went in the seventh to the Colorado Rockies, making a total of four Bears drafted over the first seven rounds. That's more Cal players taken through seven rounds than in any draft going back to at least 2000.
"I'm excited for these guys to take the next step in their career, and I feel like their development over their time at Cal was outstanding," head coach
Mike Neu said. "I'm really excited that the work that they've put in has paid off with this opportunity."
Eden showed his versatility in 2019, beginning the season at shortstop but switching to left field after he fractured a finger on his throwing hand. He eventually landed in center and showed great range and a good feel for one of the most demanding positions on the diamond. Batting leadoff, the junior from Yuba City hit .365 with eight homers, 36 RBI, 51 runs and 20 stolen bases, flashing a combo of speed, power and athleticism.
"I'm feeling totally excited, and I'm ready to get going," said Eden, who added the plan is for him to report to the Jays' minor league camp in Florida as soon as Friday.
Horn's season got off to a rough start when he came down with appendicitis the day before Cal's opener. He was sidelined for about a month but, upon his return, gave the Bears one of the top starters in the Pac-12. The right-hander from Napa finished 6-2 with a 2.06 ERA that was third lowest in the conference.
He twice was named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week and struck out a career-high 10 in beating No. 1 UCLA on April 19. Three weeks later, Horn beat No. 3 Stanford at home and finished the regular season with a complete-game victory over Arizona State. He took the loss in Cal's opening game of NCAA Regionals but was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team.
On Monday, first baseman
Andrew Vaughn and catcher
Korey Lee each went in the first round, the first time Cal has had two first-rounders in the same draft. Vaughn, taken third overall by the Chicago White Sox, became the highest drafted player in school history.
The draft concludes with rounds 11 through 40 on Wednesday.
