Junior Attacker Led Cal To Four Victories Last Weekend
WOODLAND, Calif. – California junior men's water polo attacker Jasmin Kolasinac was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation/KAP7 Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Kolasinac, a junior transfer from Wagner College (N.Y.), tallied eight goals and seven assists while leading the No. 8 Bears (7-3) to four wins at the UC Davis-hosted Aggie Roundup last weekend. He is the first Bear to earn a weekly MPSF honor since Johnny Hooper on Oct. 22, 2018.
A standout seven-point performance (four goals, three assists) against No. 7 UC Davis highlighted Kolasinac's dominant weekend in Davis. Kolasinac had three multi-goal efforts to open the weekend and tallied at least one assist in all four matches. The attacker added four exclusions earned, one field block and eight steals, five of which came in a 13-11 overtime win over No. 18 San Jose State on Saturday.
Kolasinac currently leads all MPSF players in points (37) and assists (20) while ranking seventh in goals (17). He has tallied at least one goal and one assist in seven of Cal's 10 matches played.
The Belgrade, Serbia, native, was a decorated goal scorer at Wagner before transferring to Cal, netting 203 goals in two seasons, including 114 as a sophomore. He was a 2018 ACWPC All-American honorable mention.
Kolasinac and the Bears are back in action this weekend at the MPSF/SoCal Invitational, hosted at UCLA and Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles. Cal will face UC Irvine in its first match at the invitational at 3:20 p.m. PT on Friday, Sept. 27 at UCLA's Spieker Aquatics Center.
