Bradley Tallies 19 Points, 8 Rebounds For Cal
BERKELEY – Sophomore Matt Bradley had 19 points and eight rebounds but the Cal men's basketball team fell 68-52 to Arizona on Thursday night at Haas Pavilion.
Fellow sophomore Andre Kelly grabbed nine rebounds for the Bears (10-14, 4-7 Pac-12), who cut into a nine-point first-half deficit to trail just 33-32 after Grant Anticevich's long jumper with 14 minutes to go. But the Wildcats responded with a 12-0 run take control midway through the second half.
"Arizona has a very good team," Cal head coach Mark Fox said. "We didn't play well enough to compete with a team like that tonight. Our margin for error versus a team that good on both ends is very slim. We obviously did not play well enough to give ourselves a chance."
Cal got off to a solid start and led 8-7 following Bradley's jumper at the 15:24 mark of the first half. A 3-pointer by Bradley kept the Bears within 17-13 with 7:48 to play before halftime.
After Arizona went up 25-16 with 2:35 left in the first half, the Bears got layups from Kelly and Kareem South to close within 25-20. The Wildcats led 27-20 at the break.
Cal had five players with at least three rebounds and outrebounded the Wildcats, 37-32. Kelly is averaging seven rebounds over his past five games.
Bradley has now scored in double figures in all but one game this season.
"Hats off to Arizona. They are a really good team," Bradley said. "Defensively, they are long and athletic. I had to work hard for everything I did."
The Bears are back on the Haas Pavilion floor on Sunday to take on Arizona State at 3 p.m. The game will air on ESPNU.
