King Named Freshman All-American
Right-Handed Pitcher Honored By Collegiate Baseball
TUCSON, Ariz. – An impressive start to his collegiate career earned California pitcher
Joseph King a spot on the 2020
Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American team, which was announced Tuesday.
King established himself as one of the Golden Bears' most dynamic pitchers during the shortened 2020 season, posting a 1.59 earned run average and 17 strikeouts over 11.1 innings. In seven relief appearances, the right-hander went 2-0 with wins against St. John's and Stanford and recorded a save in Cal's season finale against San Jose State.
Along with four outings with three strikeouts – including his debut in Cal's season opener at Long Beach State – King held opposing batters to a .209 batting average against and issued just four walks.
King, a native of Redwood City, Calif., became Cal's first freshman All-American since
Andrew Vaughn and
Cameron Eden collected the same honors in 2017.
