Cal Took The Wildcats Down To The Wire, But Ultimately Fell In The Final Minutes

BERKELEY – The Golden Bears nearly upended No. 10 Arizona on Friday afternoon, leading as late as 6:54 in the fourth quarter. Cal trailed by three points with 2:21 remaining, but the Wildcats went on to score the game's final six points to win 59-50.

The Bears' defense was stout throughout Friday's contest as they held the Wildcats to their second fewest points this season and their least since falling to No. 1 Stanford 81-54. Cal also held their opponent to 37 percent shooting and 20 percent from three. Arizona entered the game at 42.1 percent and 33.9 percent respectively in those categories. The Bears outrebounded the Wildcats by a large margin (40-26) and also controlled the paint with 34 points compared to Arizona's 32. Furthermore, Cal collected 10 assists, double that of the Wildcats.

Freshman forward Dalayah Daniels had a big game on Friday, collecting her fourth double-double with a team-high 24 points and 10 rebounds on 9-for-13 (69.2 percent) shooting. Freshman forward Ugonne (Michelle) Onyiah also recorded a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds), her second of the season. The Eastvale, Calif., native also shot well, finishing 5-for-10 (50 percent). Combined, the pair scored 37 points, tallied 20 rebounds and shot 60.8 percent (14-for-23).

"We took pride in everything we did," Daniels said. "We played for each other which was a big part of it. It wasn't just one or two people, we were all contributing…We will learn from this and grow."

"Our energy today was one of the best this year," Onyiah said. "We are a really good team and we just have to prove it."
