Bears Look To Continue Undefeated Start To Season
BERKELEY – California women's gymnastics travels to Corvallis, Oregon for a televised competition vs. Oregon State on Sunday afternoon. The meet will be televised on Pac-12 Bay Area and Pac-12 Oregon.
The Bears are 3-0 on the season, showing improvement in every meet of the young season. The Bears are ranked No. 13 in the country, the second-best of any Pac-12 school. The Bears have obtained that high ranking despite only competing in three meets, when every team ahead of them, except one, has participated in at least five meets so far this year.
Cal has defeated Air Force, No. 21 Arizona and No. 14 Arizona State during the shortened 2021 season. Cal collected season-high scores on all four events vs. Arizona State including a season-high team score of 197.100.
Nevaeh DeSouza notched a top-five all-around in program history as she notched a 39.600 vs. the Sun Devils, she was consistent throughout the meet, recording a 9.900 on all four events. DeSouza was named Pac-12 Gymanst of the Week and is now tied for 12th in the NCAA in the All-Around with a 39.383 mark.
DeSouza is tied in the all-around with teammate Kyana George. The duo is ranked third in the Pac-12. George tied for the eighth-best floor exercise in the country as she recorded a 9.95 vs. Arizona State. George leads the Bears with six event wins this season, and has won at least one event in every meet.
Andi Li was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week after winning the bars competition vs. ASU with a 9.925 score, the best bars routine by any Pac-12 student-athlete this year. Li has three event wins in three competitions so far this season.
