Bears Leave Six Runners On Base
LOS ANGELES – California couldn't break through with runners on base in an 8-0, six-inning, loss to No. 6 UCLA in the first game of the series on Thursday night at Easton Stadium.
The Bears (28-25-1, 8-14 Pac-12) could only put a pair of hits on the board against tough Bruin pitching, singles from Kennedy Thomas and Tatum Anzaldo. It was the conference-leading 73rd hit of the season for Anzaldo, who was named First Team All-Conference on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UCLA got on the board early on in the home first with a 2-run home run off the bat of Maya Brady.
The Bears were able to get a pair of runners on in the second, third and fourth innings, but couldn't push anything across, stranding six base runners through five. Sona Halajian hit a long fly ball to the warning track in the third, but it was caught to end the Cal threat.
The Bruins got the bats going again in the fifth, scoring four runs off four hits to lead 6-0 and plated two more in the sixth to secure the series-opening victory.
UP NEXT
The Bears and Bruins meet for game two of the series on Friday, May 13 with first pitch set for 7 pm PT on the Pac-12 Networks.
