Cal Scored 54 Runs In Six Games Over Opening Weekend
BERKELEY -- The California softball team returns to Southern California for five games in three days this weekend at the Wilson Invitational at the Long Beach State Softball Complex. Cal is coming off of a six-game opening weekend of action when it scored 54 combined runs on the way to a 5-1 record in Los Angeles and Fullerton.
The Bears start play in Long Beach with two games on Friday, Feb. 17, against Louisiana-Monroe (1pm) and at Long Beach State (6pm), before another pair of contests on Saturday, Feb. 18, vs. UC Davis (12:30 pm) and LBSU (3pm). The weekend wraps up on Sunday, Feb. 19, with a 12:30 pm first pitch vs. Louisiana-Monroe.

- Cal scored 54 runs on the way to five wins in six games during opening weekend, the third-most runs scored in the Pac-12 through week one. Cal's 48 RBI are also the third-most in the conference.
- The Bears used the long ball throughout the first weekend of action, crushing 10 home runs as a team to lead the conference. As a team, Cal recorded 21 extra base hits (10 HR, 9 2B, 2 3B), the most in the Pac-12.
- Haylei Archer turned in a great performance from the circle in Fullerton, earning a pair of wins and a save with a 0.00 ERA to go along with six strikeouts.
- Tianna Bell made an instant impact in her first weekend as a Golden Bear, including a home run in her first collegiate at-bat on Friday against San Diego. Bell hit two more home runs and compiled a .278 batting average with nine RBI.
- Sophie Medellin came through in the clutch for Cal, turning a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead with a pinch-hit 3-run home run on the way to a 4-3 win over Cal State Fullerton on Saturday. Medellin's four extra base hits are tied for second in the Pac-12, trailing just Arizona State's Yannira Acuna.
- Medellin (.417), Makena Smith (.412), Kennedy Thomas (.412) and Kacey Zobac (.357) lead the Bears in batting average through the first week of tournament play.
- Tatum Anzaldo leads the squad with seven runs scored through six games, tied for fifth in the conference.
