Cal Treks To Pacific Northwest For Three-Game Series At Oregon State

BERKELEY – The California baseball heads back on the road this week for a three-game Pac-12 series at Oregon State. Game one of the series is scheduled for Friday at 5:35 p.m. All three games will be streamed on Pac-12 Insider from Goss Stadium in Corvallis.

Cal enters the weekend with a 9-8 overall record and is 1-5 in the Pac-12 after dropping two of three games to USC last week. The Golden Bears had their game against Saint Mary's on Tuesday postponed due to heavy rain in the Bay Area. Oregon State enters the series with an overall record 13-8 after defeating Portland 8-6 on Wednesday night. In Pac-12 play the Beavers are 1-5 after being swept at Stanford last weekend.

QUICK HITS

The Bears are 3-4 on the road this season, with two wins over Houston to open the year and a win at No. 2 Stanford in February. Cal is winless (0-3) on the road in Pac-12 play after being swept by Arizona in Tucson two weekends ago.
Sophomore catcher Caleb Lomavita continues to lead the team in batting average, hitting .324. Over his last five games, he's hitting .348 (8-for-23) with a double and two home runs.
Christian Becerra made his first collegiate start on the mound against the Trojans last Friday and tossed three scoreless innings.
Cal's pitching staff remains one of the top units in the nation in walks allowed per nine innings. The Bears allow just 3.3 walks per nine innings, which ranks 26^th nationally.
Connor Sullivan leads the Pac-12 in two impressive pitching statistics. He boasts an 8.0 strikeout-to-walk ratio and allows just 0.92 walks per nine innings, ranking 24^th and 10^th in the nation, respectively.
Power numbers: Cal clubbed five home runs last weekend, with four coming in the win over the Trojans in game one on Saturday. Caleb Lomavita smashed two home runs, including a walk-off shot in the 10^th inning. Lomavita and Rodney Green Jr. are tied for the team lead with five home runs on the year, which is tied for ninth most in the Pac-12.
Joe Williams had an impressive weekend coming out of the bullpen for the Bears against USC. He made two appearances, pitching three complete frames with just one hit and one walk allowed while striking out four.

SERIES HISTORY

Friday will be the 99th meeting between the Bears and Beavers. Oregon State owns a 53-45 advantage in the series that dates back to 1916. Cal is 15-27 all-time at Oregon State and was most recently swept by the Beavers in Corvallis in 2021. Cal went 1-3 against the Beavers last season, including a 3-1 loss on May 26 in the Pac-12 Tournament.

UP NEXT
The Bears will return to the Bay Area for four games next week, starting with a Tuesday contest against USF on the road. Tuesday's game will start at 2 p.m. and will be streamed on the WCC Network. Later that week, Arizona State will come to Stu Gordon Stadium for a three-game series beginning Friday at 7 p.m.. All three games against the Sun Devils will be televised on Pac-12 Network.
