Butler Named Pac-12 Freshman Of The Week
Second Golden Bear To Win Honor Since 2016
SAN FRANCISCO – California infielder
Elon Butler has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week after a standout weekend during the Golden Bears' series victory over No. 24 Utah.
Butler hit two home runs in Cal's series-clinching win over the Utes on Sunday, a 3-run shot in the third and a solo homer in the sixth that turned out to be the game-winner in a 5-4 victory. The San Jose, California, native hit .500 for the series after recording two hits with a double and an RBI in Friday's game.
Playing in multiple positions defensively, Butler has been a lineup mainstay all season and recorded eight putouts with seven assists at second base in the weekend series against Utah. She is currently hitting .272 with six home runs and is fourth on the team with 18 RBI.
Butler is the first California player to be named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week since
Acacia Anders earned the honor on March 21, 2022 and only the second Bear since Lindsay Rood on May 2, 2016.
