BERKELEY – The 2023 U23 World Rowing Championships will feature seven members of the California women's rowing team and coaching staff, who will represent four countries in the five-day event from July 19-23 at the Plovdiv Canoe and Rowing Center in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The schedule of events, results and a live stream – available for Saturday's A/B semifinals and A-finals, as well as Sunday's A-finals – are listed below.
 
Associate head coach Adrienne Martelli will be a part of the coaching staff for the U.S. women's coxed four and junior Angela Szabo will compete for the U.S. women's four. Senior Fien van Westreenen and sophomores Lotta van Westreenen and Minou Bouman will row for the Dutch eight, while senior Antonia Galland will race on the German eight and incoming freshman Olivia Roth will compete for the Switzerland double sculls.
 
HOW TO FOLLOW A native of Sarasota, Florida, Szabo is making her return to the U23 World Rowing Championships after having stroked the U.S. coxed-four team to a bronze medal at the 2022 championships in Varese, Italy.
 
Sisters Fien and Lotta van Westreenen, Amsterdam natives, have both represented the Netherlands in past international regattas. Fien van Westreenen won the gold for the Dutch in the double sculls at the 2021 U23 championships and the 2019 U19 championships, while Lotta van Westreenen placed fourth in the double sculls at the 2022 U19 championships and won the gold medal in the double sculls at the 2021 World Rowing Junior Championships.
 
Bouman, who also hails from Amsterdam, competed in the 2022 U19 World Rowing Championships and placed sixth in the quadruple sculls event.
 
A native of Essen, Germany, Galland is making her first appearance at the event and has previously competed at the 2021 European U23 Championships, 2019 European Junior Championships and 2019 International Baltic Cup.
 
Roth will start at Cal in the fall and comes to the team out of Berikon, Switzerland. Her previous international experience includes rowing for Switzerland in the women's pair at the 2022 U23 World Rowing Championships and winning gold in the quadruple sculls at the 2021 World Rowing Junior Championships.
