RIVERSIDE – Rohan McEligot scored a late game-winning goal as the Cal men's soccer team held on for a 2-1 result at California Baptist on Thursday night at CBU Soccer Stadium. The Golden Bears stayed unbeaten and improved to 3-0-2.
Â
The Lancers fell to 0-3-1.
Â
The Bears fell behind in the 25th minute, when Leo Mendez scored from a difficult angle to give CBU a 1-0 lead.
Â
But Cal didn't have to wait long for the equalizer.
Â
In the 30th minute, a CBU defensive miscue resulted in the equalizer, as the Lancer's Uly Martinez, trying to clear the ball from deep in his penalty area, accidentally fired the ball off of teammate Otto Gustafsson, past goalkeeper Dorian Drucks and into CBU's net. The goal was originally credited to Cal's
Cameron Robie, but it was later ruled an own goal.
Â
The teams remained tied, 1-1, at halftime.
Â
In the 78th minute, Cal's
Nonso Adimabua won a ball in midfield and then a deft touch by
Adrian Guzman sprung McEligot, who ran free through the Lancers' defense to slot the ball past Drucks from 16 yards out.
Â
Cal returns to the Bay Area but remains on the road to play at San Francisco on Sunday at 7 p.m. PT.
